Christian Concern:

Christian Concern Christian Legal Centre

Now is the time to help us secure Christian freedoms in Britain:

I’m writing to you because we have a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to secure Christian freedoms in Britain through the European Courts. We have just 3 months to appeal the decision in the cases mentioned below – and we need your help to take it.

We will be challenging the British Government in the Grand Chamber of the Council of Europe over its recent treatment of Christians.

European Court of Human Rights
 The story so far...

Shirley ChaplinShirley Chaplin, a nurse from Devon, was told by her bosses that she had to remove the cross from around her neck – even though she had worn it for 30 years without incident;

Gary McFarlane Gary McFarlane, a relationships counsellor from Bristol, was sacked after saying he might have a conscientious objection to giving sex therapy to homosexual couples

The judgment on these cases from the European Court of Human Rights was announced recently. The European judges showed how wrong the British Government is on these issues:
The British Government said the cross was not a generally recognised Christian symbol!

The European Court rightly said that wearing a cross is an expression of Christian faith and should be a protected freedom.

In both cases, the British Government suggested that because these Christians were free to resign and find other jobs, their freedom of religion had been protected!

But the European Court said that 'freedom to resign and find another job' is not enough to guarantee religious freedom.

A unique opportunity

As you can see, the British Government has fought us all the way on these cases.

But in God’s providence, this has led to a unique opportunity for securing important freedoms for Christians not just in Britain, but across Europe.

With your support, we can go to the Grand Chamber of the Council of Europe to challenge the British Government.

Is it worth it?

Last week I was in Strasbourg meeting with various members of the Council of Europe – and there is real support for our cause there.

I now believe it is crucial for us to have a presence in Strasbourg, where we will be able to lobby member states with a greatly increased chance of success in defending Christian freedom in Britain

Yet this takes time and money. Could you give a financial gift to make this possibility a reality?

The door is only open for a limited time

The door is only open to us for the next 3 months to prepare our appeal and to create political and legal momentum.

We need to know that we have sufficient funds before we make a decision to take this opportunity.

Please make a donation as soon as you can so that we can get to work.

Please also commit this effort to the Lord in prayer. We know that none of our efforts will succeed without His help and blessing.
